A photo is a kind of thing.

A photo can be prototypical or non-prototypical.

A photo is usually prototypical.

[Actually the real photos are all non-prototypical but we'll explicitly say so when we create them.]

Understand "photo/photograph/picture/pic/snap/snapshot/print" as "[photo]".

Understand "[photo]" as a photo.

Understand "of" as a photo.

Understand "photos/photographs/pictures/pics/snaps/snapshots/prints" as "[photos]".

Understand "[photos]" as the plural of photo when the player does not carry the stack of photos.

The indefinite article of a photo is "a". [Inform was getting confused by photos whose subjects' names began with a vowel, resulting in "an photo of the ectoplasm" etc.]

[Removed to improve performance:]

[A photo can be subject-lit.

A photo is usually not subject-lit.

Understand "glowing" and "lit" as "[subject-lit]".

Understand "darkened" and "dark" as "[darkened]".

Understand "[subject-lit]" as a photo when the item described is subject-lit.

Understand "[darkened]" as a photo when the subject of the item described is the black sphere and the item described is not subject-lit.

A photo can be subject-empty or subject-full.

A photo is usually subject-empty.

Understand "empty" as "[subject-empty]".

Understand "[subject-empty]" as a photo when the subject of the item described is the jam jar and the item described is subject-empty.]

[This is so that when we print the name of a thing, we know whether we're just printing its name, or we're printing its name as part of the name of a photo.

THAT COMMENT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE. GO TO BED EMILY]
